Junior Herbalists 2026 - 2027

A hands-on herbal learning program for middle and high school students who are ready to dive deeper into the world of plants, research, and herbal preparations.

Throughout this program, students will learn how to properly research herbs using a variety of trusted resources while building their own herb monographs and herbarium collections. We’ll explore plant identification, botany, traditional uses, safety considerations, preparation methods, and responsible herbal practices.

Students will also gain practical experience creating herbal products such as teas, salves, syrups, infused oils, and more while learning foundational safety, sanitation, labeling, and formulation skills.

This offering is designed to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper connection with the natural world through education-based, hands-on experiences.

This program is best suited for middle and high school students who are excited about a more academic, focused approach to plant study and herbalism.

Where will these classes take place?

Classes will continue to be held at Wild Arts Learning studio in East Springfield.

Junior Herbalist classes will be held from 10am - 12 pm and then join our Meadowlings from 12:30pm - 3pm on Fridays. Lunch will be held from 12pm - 12:30pm.

What will the students be working on?

Students will be applying skills to create their own mini herbariums, a collection of monographs in which they can always refer back and continue add to as their paths continue. These monographs will include botanical descriptions, facts, history, medicinal / cultural value, and recommended usages for each of the plants we will cover.

What is the cost for this program, and when is it due?

The total cost for this intensive is $225. This will include 12 days of instruction, all necessary supplies, communication outside of class, and optional take home extensions.

The total cost can be split into three payments of $75, which are due on or before the first class in each month (August, September, and October).

Payment(s) may be made using the link below, given to me in person, or arranged through most online payment options (PayPal, square, cashapp, etc).

What should students bring to class?

All required supplies are provided. However, we will be using DK’s “Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine” and “The Modern Herbal Dispensatory” by Easley & Horne as spines for this school year. Copies of these books will be provided during class, but families are encouraged to purchase these spines for independent study.

Students should bring lunch, snacks, weather appropriate clothing, water shoes, bug spray, and sunscreen.
